Free Online Workshop in collaboration with Ecclesiastical Sewing 

Goldwork Pomegranate Christmas Workshop 🍎🎄

Saturday 5th December from 7pm to 9pm GMT (UK time)

This workshop will be taught in one live session via Zoom.

To take part, simply complete the sign-up form.

 

Everyone who signs up will receive the Zoom link to join the live workshop, together with all the information you’ll need to get ready for the class.

The session will also be recorded, and everyone who signs up will receive the recording afterwards, whether you attend live or not. The recording link will not expire, so you can watch it whenever you like and return to it as many times as you need.

🍎 What We’ll Be Stitching

In this free Christmas workshop, we’ll be creating a Goldwork Pomegranate, a design inspired by the pomegranate’s long history in ecclesiastical art and embroidery.

​

The pomegranate is an ancient Christian symbol of resurrection and eternal life and has appeared in ecclesiastical art and embroidery for centuries.

​

This project is a lovely introduction to goldwork embroidery if you’re new to the technique, but intricate enough to keep more experienced embroiderers busy too.

​

Throughout the workshop, you’ll learn:

​

• How to prepare and transfer the design onto your fabric

• How to work with different goldwork metals and materials

• Felt padding

• Couching

• Chipping

• Cutwork

• How to work with metal strip and coiled pearl purl, and more...

​

I’ll take you through the project step by step, sharing plenty of tips along the way. I also hope to inspire you to experiment and create your own version using materials you may already have at home.

​

​On the other side of the collaboration, Ecclesiastical Sewing will teach you how to make a Christmas stocking, perfect for the festive season. 🎄

​

✨ Materials & Kits

​

If you’d like to make the same version I’ll be stitching in class, you’ll find the Goldwork Pomegranate Kit available in my Shop.

​

The kit includes all the goldwork materials used in the project, together with the light colour 100% cotton calico/muslin fabric shown in the project photos.

You can stitch your Pomegranate onto this fabric just as I have, or you can choose to work the design onto a different fabric.

​

For those who would like to embroider the Pomegranate directly onto the darker fabric used for the Ecclesiastical Sewing Christmas stocking, I’ll also be demonstrating the traditional prick & pounce method during the workshop. This is a particularly useful way of transferring a design onto dark fabric, where other transfer methods can be difficult to see.

​

If you choose to stitch your Pomegranate onto another fabric of your own, the calico/muslin supplied in my Goldwork Pomegranate Kit can instead be used as backing fabric to support your chosen fabric while you embroider.

There’s no obligation to purchase any kit to take part. You’re very welcome to join using goldwork materials you already have at home.
